About Us

Cape Town Safaris, a division of Jenman African Safaris, is a family-run tour operator based in Cape Town, South Africa, with operational offices in Victoria Falls, Madagascar and Tanzania.

At Cape Town Safaris we pride ourselves in being one of the leading tour operators in Cape Town. Founded in 1993, we have grown at a steady pace and achieved a reputation for reliability, safety, high levels and excellent value for money. We specialise in small-group scheduled and tailor-made private guided safaris as well as that we operate adventure, camping and lodge safaris and are able to offer our clients great know-how and instant support while on safari in Cape Town and Southern Africa.

Our philosophy: To provide comfortable, more personal and interactive, holidays. Jenman African Safaris (and therefore Cape Town Safaris) has positioned itself to be able to provide their customers with the product they require, whether it’s a budget or an upmarket holiday, catering for those who are looking for a value-for-money experience.

What makes Cape Town Safaris different?

  1. You are able to book your own accommodation and daytrips online with us – book and control your own holiday
  2. We offer tailor-made travel throughout Cape Town and Southern Africa
  3. Small group policy – all our tours (scheduled and daytrips) run with a maximum of 12 clients per tour…
  4. We are specialists in family holidays
  5. Cater for larger groups on customised itineraries.
  6. Specialists in family holidays (discounts for children on request).
  7. Cater to everyone’s needs from camping, lodge, family, scheduled, tailor-made and special-interest travel.
  8. More focus on the wilderness and culture.
  9. A pledge to minimise the intrusion on local cultures.
  10. A more personal atmosphere than larger group safaris and tours.
  11. Committed to eco-friendly and sustainable, responsible tourism in all our operations.
  12. Make use of local qualified guides from the specific regions in which we operate.

A few reasons to Book with Jenman Safaris:

Managing Director

GARTH JENMAN

Managing Director

“I founded Jenman African Safaris in 1993 with one vehicle, guiding walking safaris in the lower Zambezi, Mana Pools. Since then Jenman Safaris has expanded into 14 African countries, we have employed many more staff, and today most of our partners know me personally around the globe.

Travel in Africa has always been a passion of mine, and fortunately my personal interest and work life are combined. Nevertheless, my team and I never forget that we are arranging your holiday – often a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you have looked forward to, for years in some cases. Hence our company slogan is; Africa: Your Adventure, Our Expertise.

Every season the positive feedback from our clients and agents around the world overwhelms me and motivates all of us at Jenman Safaris to carry on, setting our quality standards higher each year. Today, we not only offer affordable solutions for your once-in-a-lifetime Africa experience, but operate lodge safaris, custom-made honey-moon packages and most other travel related arrangements in Southern Africa, East Africa & Madagascar.”

I look forward to many more years of welcoming you on an African experience you will never forget.

History:

Having traveled abroad to more than 40 countries recreationally and through my studies, Africa was calling me. I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa in May of 1999 and proceeded to fall in love with the wonders of the Western Cape and the countries of Southern Africa. After 2 months of fun and exploration shark cage diving in Gansbaai, overlanding on safaris to Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe and touring the winelands surrounding Cape Town, I grew roots - too enamored to leave. Putting my background, expertise in tourism and passion for the region to use, I began the Cape Scene Magazine, which I owned and operated for more than 5 years from Cape Town until selling the business and returning to the states at the end of 2004. My love of Africa and Cape Town has never left me and now thousands of miles away, I’ve revisited my calling, now dedicated to helping others’ discover the beauty of this part of the world as the North American Africa Sales Consultant  for Jenman Safaris. Africa in general, and Southern Africa in particular, should be on everyone’s bucket list. You truly have not lived until you discover the genetic memory we all possess that emerges when you experience the cradle of humanity.

B.Sc Hons Environmental Management (UCT), including sustainable tourism, FGASA accredited field guide, trained in the real world of travel by experience

History:

I started exploring Africa with my family from a young age, and most of our family holidays were adventurous camping & 4x4 trips discovering the hidden gems of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique and Lesotho.  As a student studying environmental management, I was already working in the tourism industry, doing volunteer guiding at the Two Oceans Aquarium, working as a part time river guide, and as a deck hand on a yacht doing tourist cruises. After a short stint working in environmental education, followed by a backpacking trip in South America, I learnt one thing about myself – I live for travel, whether my own or that of others. One thing led to another and I ended up doing my field guide (safari guide) certificate, and guiding overland safaris into Botswana. I also worked for a while as a safari guide at a small private game reserve near Kruger. Somewhere along the line I shared my home with a volunteer worker from Madagascar, and he helped cement a desire in me to explore that island of incredible culture, friendly people, crazy wildlife and beautiful beaches & coral reefs. My recent travels there have only increased my desire to share the amazing places of this world with others.
